As expected, the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara was packed to capacity for the first of two Easter Fest concerts featuring Jamaican legends, Glen Washington and Beres Hammond on Sunday night. The duo did not disappoint their fans who turned up in their thousands to be a part of the event. Also turning out breathtaking performances was Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT& T) Jingle and Song Competition winner, Brandon Harding.
The show which started some three hours behind schedule saw a clash of great vocals from the three performers who delivered with charm, style and emotion. During the three hours, the crowd was entertained intermittently by selections from Deejay Sean.
Hitting the right tunes to please the audience, the ladies were seen holding onto their partners.
Just after 23: 00h, the crowd got a little restless after the music system experienced technical problems, but acted maturely, containing their emotions.
Some sections of the crowd were shouting angrily for the show to start, claiming that they were there since 20:30h.
However, close to midnight on Sunday evening, Deejay Sean from Fusions International abruptly started the long anticipated concert by inviting the rising star out of the mining town of Linden, who made his stage appearance decked in his favourite colour, “white”. The audience went up in a loud roar as the youngster made his appearance.
His excellent vocals sent vibrations into the audience, who were somewhat agitated due to the late start. Nevertheless, he serenaded the audience and he was well received and appreciated. He performed a few hits from his music idols, Beres Hammond and Christopher Martin.
His voice and cool moves had the audience swaying and singing along with every song he rendered. His 15 minute, performance on the stage definitely set the mood for an enjoyable evening with the two superstars.
Wasting no time, the next performer, Glen Washington was introduced, but delayed his stage appearance due to some minor glitches. Eventually after a few moments, he came out decked in a black suite with his “dreadlocks” loose. He performed some of his hits including “If Loving You Was Wrong”, “Kindness For Weakness”, “You Are My Number One Girl”, “Wanna Be Loved”, “Can’t Keep A Good Man Down” and “Can’t You See”. He also performed songs from his albums Heart of the City, Free up the Vibes, Destiny: Get Next to Me and others.
The superstar also sang a song from his new album. Halfway during his performance, he walked off the stage after the microphone that he was using was experiencing technical difficulties, but moments after he reappeared apologising, and blamed it on the microphone. Despite the brief glitch, he had the older folks on their feet during his 90-minute stage performance.
Washington was in Guyana 10 years ago.
Both Harding and Washington were accompanied by members of the Heat Waves Band, who were complimented for their fantastic performances.
His soothing performance was followed by a 15-minute break, but the fusion deejay did not allow for the already hyped crowd to lose their rhythms. He carefully selected tracks that kept up the tempo as the crowd danced to the lively music.
Just before 01:00h on Sunday morning, the Jamaican singing sensation Beres Hammond took to the stage with loud cheers from the audience.
Hammond, well known for his reggae groves and soothing voice, dished out some of his favourite tunes such as “What One Dance Can Do”, “Can’t Stop A Man from Trying”, “Love From A Distance”, “Sweet Lies”, “Rock Away”, “What A Life”, “Step Aside”, among others.

An energetic performer, Hammond showed that he still has some youth in him as he skipped and jumped on stage during his performance.
