Ariskar Maniram of Lot 121, Number 73 Village, Corentyne, Berbice on Monday appeared before Georgetown Magistrate Judy Latchman on a charge alleging that he had forged his own adoption papers.
The charge specified that between July 17 and July 20, 2018, with intent to defraud, Maniram conspired with a person or persons in Georgetown to forge a Certificate of Adoption in favour of himself, purporting to show that it was issued by the General Registrar’s Office.
Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris told the court that the 30-year-old resident of the United States since 2003 paid someone G$73,000 to forge the document, then attempted to use the document to apply for citizenship in the United States of America, but was caught.
Maniram told Magistrate Latchman he was unaware that the document had been forged, and is as such innocent of the fraud.
He was placed on bail in the sum of G$100,000 and the matter was adjourned to August 13. As a condition of his bail, Maniram was ordered to lodge his passport and to report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) weekly.
