After winning the toss and choosing to field first, Berbice justified their decision by never allowing Essequibo to build any substantial partnership, the highest being 64 for the third wicket between Lall and Norwin Fredricks, In their turn at the crease, the Berbice batsmen dispatched the Essequibo bowlers to all parts of the ground and even out of it. Berbice reached their target in just 21 overs with 14 fours and 11 sixes. Their first hundred runs came in just 78 balls.

The opening partnership between Ramdeen and Fudadin produced 62 runs before Ramdeen was bowled by Heyliger.

Fudadin and West Indies left-handed batsman, Deonarine, saw the game to the end with a 117- run partnership. Fudadin smashed 74 (6×4 and 5×6) from 58 balls, while Deonarine cracked 66 (6×4 and 4×4) from 43 balls.
