Barbados dominate CRC 2011

Champion Roger Mayers hoists the chequered flag after his third consecutive win

The curtains came down on the final leg of the Caribbean Race of Champions 2011 yesterday at the South Dakota Circuit with team Barbados putting on a commanding performance. Barbados carted off with the Country Title after securing a whopping 159 points. Team Jamaica finished in second with 73 points and Guyana claimed third position with 62 points.

In the overall points standing for Group 3, Bajan Roger Mayers tamed his rivals with his uncatchable Ford Focus motorcar to emerge victorious from among 15 other competitors. Jamaican David Summerbell Jr. finished in second place with 44 points. Summerbell Jr. failed to add to his starting points of 44 after he dropped out of his first race due to mechanical problems.

The Jamaican never recovered. Claiming the third and fourth positions were Doug and Mark Maloney who captured 42 and 36 points respectively. In 5th position with 19 points was Guyana’s Paul Vieira in his Mazda RX-7 motorcar. Stuart Williams (Barbados), Andrew King (Guyana), Barry Mayers (Barbados), Peter Rae (Jamaica), Mark Vieira (Guyana), Kevin Jeffrey (Guyana), Chris Campbell (Jamaica), Andre Anderson (Jamaica), George Bayley (Jamaica) and Ryon Gayadin (Guyana) finished in the respective positions (6th-15th).

In the Group 2 overall points standing, Kenrick Husbands in his Toyota Starlet from Barbados finished on top with a commanding 96 points. Guyanese Raj Singh (69 points), John Joseph (66 points) and Chet Singh (53 points) finished in 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. In 5th, 6th and 7th positions were Bajan’s Mark Thompson, Edward Corbin, Karl Waterman with 47, 33 and 27 points respectively. Don Gilbert of Jamaica finished in 8th with 13 points.

In the first race, which was sponsored by Seaboard Marine, Mayers emerged victorious ahead of Guyanese Mark Vieira, who claimed second in his Mazda RX-8 motorcar with Douglas Maloney of Barbados driving an Audi A4, taking 3rd place. The second race was dominated again by Mayers. Finishing second was Mark Maloney, who drove a Mazda RX-3 and third went to Andrew King in his Mazda RX-7 machine. The outcome of the final CMRC race was the same as the second.

In the Superbike events which were sponsored by the Correia Group of Companies, Guyanese Steven “Rossi” Vieira rode to victory with his Suzuki GSXR600 motorcycle. Taking the second position was Guyanese Marcel Profitt and finishing third was Maurice Meneze on his Kawasaki ZX6. The second Superbike race was won by Carlos Rodrigues on his Yamaha R6, with Vieira taking the second spot.

In the three Group 2B events, Danny Persaud in his Mazda Miata, Syed Hassan in a Toyota Starlet EP71 Turbo, and Surinamese Oliver Tjin Lip Shie driving a Honda Civic claimed the top positions respectively. The two races in the Group 3 category were won by Kem Lall from team CAMS of the U.S.A. in his Mazda RX-7. The two races in the Group 4 category were won by Paul Vieira and Guyanese Ryan Rahaman in his Ford Sierra, respectively.

In Go-Kart action, Nikhil Seereeram took first place, with Alexander Fiedtkou finishing second and Raymond Seebarran third.
