Auto dealer facing additional charges

n auto dealer who is already facing thirteen charges of obtaining by false presence appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on Tuesday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court One, charged with another five counts of obtaining credit by false pretence.

Robert Allan Gates, 53, of Seaforth Street Campbellville, was not required to plead to the indictable charges. It is alleged that between April and June 2010, with intent to defraud, he obtained more than $1.9 million from Clarence Jordon, Lester Cummings, Anita Singh, Rochelle McKenzie and Andy Brisport, by falsely pretending that he was in a position to acquire various types of motor vehicles for them, knowing same to be false.

Police prosecutor Stephen Telford highlighted that the address given by the accused to one of the persons involved in the previous matter never existed, and, that, upon investigations by the police, the address he gave the court for the business office was also incorrect.

The matter will continue on September 21, and Gates will remain on remand at the Camp Street Prison.
