ASL, Survival Supermarket grab top GCCI awards

Survival Supermarket and Air Services Limited received the prestigious Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Business of the Year Award, for small and medium businesses respectively, at the chamber’s annual dinner and award ceremony held last Thursday.  The award recognises the companies’ demonstration of good overall performance in the areas of financial growth, customer satisfaction, internal process improvements, and employee’s relations.
Both representatives in their acceptance speeches spoke about their companies’ renewed commitment to the development of Guyana and the enhancement of their products and services.
Veteran businessmen, the late Naeem Nasir of Bakewell, and Dennis Morgan of Denmore Garment Factory were both awarded posthumously for their outstanding contributions to the development of various sectors and communities. They received the Award of Achievement.
The Lifetime Achievement Award for contributions towards the development of the business environment in Guyana which present opportunities for learning in the future generation went to the late Edward Beharry and Anand Beharry of the Edward B Beharry and Company for the Chico and Indi products.
Anand Beharry also collected the President’s Award on behalf of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI), a subsidiary company. The President’s Award is given in recognition of a company’s achievements, significant investments, growth, and good corporate citizenship.
Acting Tourism Minister Irfaan Ali was awarded for his excellent service towards the development of the private sector. He copped the Public Service Award of Excellence, outshining his competitor, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Robert Persaud.

In recognition of its ethical leadership, good corporate governance and community ethics, Scotiabank received the award for Best Corporate Citizen.  With a record breakthrough in the fields of technology, processes, marketing campaigns, and positive development, the Caribbean Containers Inc was awarded the Innovation Award, while the Hand-in-Hand Insurance Company was awarded for its long service to Guyana.
Patricia Bacchus of Caribbean Containers Inc was awarded the Young Business Executive Award for her dedication and the improvement of her skills and vision for the future.
Digicel Guyana received the Chamber’s  Award for its commitment to delivering quality service to the Guyanese economy.
For the best coverage of GCCI’s events and its development, the Stabroek News Business Supplement was awarded the coveted Media Award. The nominees included MTV’s News Update, Guyana Times/TVG News and the National Communications Network’s Six O’ Clock News Magazine.
