Armed bandits rob ‘Guy-America’ of over G$2M

The owner of ‘Guy-America’ – a popular Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara (WCD) business – was on Wednesday evening assaulted by armed bandits just before his entity was robbed of approximately G$2.3M in cash.
According to information received from Police “D” Division Commander, Leslie James, the robbery took place around 20:30hrs.
This publication was informed that the owner of Guy-America, 61-year-old Mohamed Ali, of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, was in the process of closing his business when two bandits, one of whom was armed with a “long gun”, entered the store.
The suspects reportedly began to threaten Ali while demanding that he turn over his cash and valuables. When the businessman hesitated, the bandit holding the gun sought to hit Ali several times over the head, causing the elderly man to bleed.
This publication was informed that the bandits, throughout the ordeal which lasted approximately 15 minutes, escaped with about G$2.3M as well as other valuables including Ali’s mobile phone.
They then fled the scene in a silver/grey Toyota Premio which was waiting outside of the business premises.
Commander James disclosed that according to reports received, the perpetrators fled the scene in the western direction –heading to Parika.
