Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony has congratulated the national under-13 female cricketers for emerging champions in their annual windball cricket tournament with Trinidad and Tobago recently. |
The teenaged female cricketers beat their rivals 4- 1 in the five- match series, and Anthony was happy the girls have made Guyana proud with their outstanding performance; he declared this yesterday when the girls paid a courtesy call on him.
“You girls have made us proud. We have other female teams in Guyana, like the Lady Jags, Rugby Sevens, Hockey team among others and they have made us proud. Now you put up a good performance against the visitors; I think this [ is] tremendous, and I do hope you would continue the good work and start preparing for the other tournament, as sport keeps you healthy and active,” Anthony declared.
They received a trophy for winning the competition, compliments of Anthony, while they gave a jersey as a souvenir to the minister.
The players were chosen from various primary schools across the country, and skipper Andriska Mickle, in her remarks, thanked the minister for sponsoring the trophy. She also stated that they played good cricket and that was why they were able to come out on top.
The Guyanese are set to make a return trip to the twin-island republic later this year.
