Signalling further development in the local economy, Guyana Restaurant Inc. has opened its third Popeyes franchise at Water and America Streets, Stabroek, Georgetown.

During the grand opening ceremony on Saturday, Chairman of Guyana Restaurant Inc Ram Lalbadhur Singh spoke of the significant achievements the franchise has made since commencing operations in 2010.

“Over the years, business has developed at a pace where it is now necessary to have a third store since the demand for our products is increasing. It is found that there is a need in this part of Georgetown for a facility of this type because of several offices and businesses which are located in the area. The consistent growth of the economy over the years also added to the encouragement of having an expanded business operation,” Singh explained.

This new branch has created employment for 36 persons and will provide additional employment for local businesses that the restaurant will source raw materials from.

Though he did not reveal the cost of this new franchise, Singh disclosed that Guyana Restaurant Inc. is seeking to establish other branches across the country in areas like Berbice, West Demerara and possibly the Essequibo Coast.

Finance Minister, Dr Ashni Singh who delivered the feature address, acknowledged the importance of this new franchise to the business sector in Guyana.

“Every day, sometimes unconsciously, a transformation is unfolding before our very eyes… This is a transformation we shouldn’t take for granted. It is testimony of the changes that our country have been undergoing over the years; it is reflective of the continued abiding faith of Guyanese entrepreneurs… it is also testimony of continued confidence by both local and international businesses in the Guyanese economy,” the Minister said.

Former Attorney General of Guyana Charles Ramson, along with several prestigious local entrepreneurs, was among those present during the opening ceremony.

Only in September 2014, the franchise had opened its second restaurant at the cost of Gy$700 million (US$3 million) on Camp Street, Georgetown.
