Another exciting feature of Jamzone 2011

Dear Editor,

There is only one thing I love more than Jamzone in Guyana, and that is cricket. At the start of this year, there were talks about Jamzone expanding and doing new things, and I have to say I am eagerly anticipating it.

However, I never imagined that the event would have T20 cricket matches. And it would not be cricket matches with just Guyanese cricketers; rather, the organisers have said there would be established and exciting West Indies players participating.

The big and mighty Keiron Pollard and the classy Navin Stuart from Trinidad would join Guyanese star batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan in the Georgetown Pitbulls team; while my favourite, the world’s most threatening batsman, Chris Gayle, would team up with his countryman Danza Hyatt and with Trinidadian Dwayne Bravo and Barbadian Andre Russell to represent the Hits and Jams Superstars.

Editor, the players I mentioned above are just a few; there are other talented and vibrant Guyanese and West Indian cricketers who would be featured as well. I am sure that many persons in and out of Guyana are looking forward to these T20 matches, and the other features of Jamzone 2011. I cannot wait to see Gayle in action, as he did not play any professional cricket since the IPL. Jamzone last year was indeed a blast; and from all appearances, 2011 promises to be bigger and more exciting.

I applaud Hits and Jams and the sponsors for the efforts they have made to provide such high-profile entertainment.

I hope Guyanese would turn out in large numbers to enjoy and participate in the various events.

Yours faithfully,

Marcus Persid
