The Alliance for Change (AFC) has promised to introduce a Women’s Development Fund as part of initiatives to aggressively tackle women’s issues in Guyana, if it is victorious at the November 28 polls.
The party made the pledge at its weekly press conference at its headquarters in Campbellville on Wednesday.

At the forum, presidential candidate Khemraj Ramjattan; vice presidential candidate, Raphael Trotman and economic advisor to the party, Sasenarine Singh addressed a range of issues.
Singh said as part of the fund, Gy$100 million will be “put aside every year to focus on women centric issues”. Some of the needs that will be addressed through the initiative include counseling of abused women and providing shelter and care for women who are victims of domestic violence.
“The AFC’s platform will focus on microfinancing and will encourage women to be greater contributors to economic development by assisting them with the tools necessary to earn from home, Singh stated. The tools put in place to encourage economic development will effectively’ remedy the imbalance’ for women in securing credit,” he said.
Singh went on to state the AFC’s child benefit plan, a subsidiary of their women’s development plan, will include Gy$2000 monthly allowance for every child within a family.
The party also promised to build 10 new daycare centres in all the regions to assist families where both parents work.
The economic advisor went on to state that families living below the poverty line will qualify for free transportation for their children, but did not say how these programmes will be funded.
