ACG – U.S.A gearing up for a PPP victory at 2011 elections

The Association of Concerned Guyanese – USA held its end-of-year gathering to give members and supporters an opportunity to interact with each other as part of the celebrations for the Christmas festivities.

During his interaction with members and supporters of the organization, ACG chairperson Dr. Raj Singh gave assurance of the PPP’s prospects of winning the 2011 elections. “We are clearly positioned to go into the campaign on solid ground and be successful”, he said, adding that the party’s record of achievement “will take us through the next elections; and come five years from now, we’ll be doing the same thing”.

Singh cautioned, though, that while the party remains confident of its victory at next year’s elections, it’s not going to be easy. The PPP, the ACG chairman says, will take to the electorate its achievements based on what is highlighted in the 2006 manifesto. Singh stated that even though there were challenges, “we have fulfilled our promises to the people of Guyana”. He chronicled some of the achievements from 1992 to present, including turning the economy around from paying 94% of foreign earnings to debt servicing, to today “keeping 96% of every dollar that we make and plugging it back into the economy…Today, the treasury is about US$775 million strong, it is the strongest it has ever been from colonialism to now.”

The ACG is gearing up for its role in the upcoming elections, which gains momentum following the announcement of the presidential candidate early in 2011. “Whoever the candidate is coming out of the party’s dialogue, that candidate will be in New York,” Singh told Guyana Times International, adding that this is so since quite a bit of the support comes from New York.

At its end-of-year Christmas party, Singh thanked the members and supporters of the ACG for their hard work, and he reminded them of the harder work that is ahead in 2011.

Meanwhile, the ACG chairman is optimistic about the investment opportunities in Guyana, and is encouraging friends and supporters in the diaspora to become involved in Guyana’s development through investment.
