A joyous return – and a timely reminder

Dear Editor,

Yet again that ‘specialised hospital’ came to my mind. I learned that the seven children and one adult from Guyana, who went for medical treatment to Max Hospital in New Delhi, India, all returned home – a really touching story indeed.

The beneficiaries were Anasazi Narain, Kara Hardy and Chandini Persaud, Tanisha Ali, Tomaisha Samuels, Mark Anthony Singh, and Alvin Ramkumar. If I extend this effect, it reaches, of course, all the families, the schools, the neighbourhoods and a bright future. So I do rejoice at the higher level.

You know when I read about what actually took place; a sense of seriousness comes over me. I mean we just have to get that ‘hospital’, and as early as possible too.

Four children underwent open heart surgery to correct various forms of congenital heart defects, and one child had a brain tumour removed. The other two children had follow-up operations for a kidney ailment and skin disease. So it was really ‘expert’ treatment that was provided.

The group left Guyana on February 10 and after spending two nights in Toronto arrived in India on February 13. So the expedition was almost one month.

The mission was made possible through the initiatives of Three Rivers Kids Foundation (TRKF), a registered charitable organisation in Ontario, Canada.

So gratitude is in order and this kind of clean, good work must inspire others to be helpful. Sometimes all that it takes is to cancel a night of sporting, a holiday, or even a new suit. When everyone contributes, a little goes a long way.

Yours truly,

Elisha Glassgow
