Guyana’s 2019 gold declarations surpass 2018 target

– foreign revenue simultaneously increased 11.81% The Natural Resources Ministry on Tuesday announced that gold declarations for 2019 stand at 634,905 ounces when compared to 616,223 ounces in 2018. The Ministry in a release stated that of the declarants, Guyana Goldfields and Troy Resources stand as two large-scale investors which, despite severe challenges and constraints, managed to have reasonably good production. Taxi driver disqualified from driving after 3rd DUI conviction

Presiding Linden Magistrate Dylon Bess on Wednesday permanently disqualified the driver’s licence of a Speightland, Linden resident who appeared before him at the Linden Magistrate’s Court, charged with the offences of Driving under the Influence (DUI) and failure to have his vehicular parts maintained. Joshua Mangar was ordered to pay a fine amounting to a total of G$12,500 after pleading guilty to the offences. NIS announces increase in Old Age Pension

The National Insurance Scheme (NIS) has announced an increase in old-age pension which took effect from January 1, 2020. However, it was noted that the insurable earnings ceiling has increased. This is according to a statement that was issued by NIS declaring the increase in minimum old age and invalidity pensions, an increase in minimum survivors’ pension, an increase in the insurable earnings ceiling-monthly, and increase in the insurable earnings ceiling- weekly. Caribbean countries warned as major earthquakes hit Puerto Rico

The Trinidad-based Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Tuesday said that the recent earthquakes in Puerto Rico should serve as a reminder to the Caribbean, “that our region is seismically active and we always need to be prepared”.
