Guyana takes step backward on Global Anti-Corruption Index

Transparency International has released its latest global rankings, showing that while Guyana is considered one of 20 countries who has made improvements, it has also taken a step backwards from last year. According to the index, Guyana fell by one spot to the 93rd position out of 180 countries. The index placed Guyana’s corruption perception score at 37 to tie with Gambia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Mongolia and Panama. Tullow announces oil find in third well offshore Guyana; but below estimates

The UK‘s Tullow Oil plc on Thursday announced that the Carapa-1 exploration well, drilled on the Repsol-operated Kanuku licence offshore Guyana, has encountered approximately four metres of net oil pay based on preliminary interpretation but that this is below pre-drill estimates. Preliminary results of drilling, wireline logging, pressure testing and sampling of reservoir fluid indicate the discovery of oil in Upper Cretaceous age sandstone reservoirs. Berbice murder, manslaughter accused charged

Two persons accused of separate murders on the Corentyne between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were arraigned on Monday, with one suspect being granted bail.
