One year after being wanted for rape, 26-year-old Esmund Adams appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Monday, where he was released on bail.
Adams was not required to plea to the charge, which detailed that between December 1 and 31, 2018, at Princes and Adelaide Streets, Wortmanville, Georgetown, he engaged in sexual penetration with a girl under the age of 16.
The matter was held in camera inside the Chief Magistrate’s courtroom. This newspaper was told that the rape reportedly occurred at Princes and Adelaide Streets, Wortmanville, but the accused allegedly took the underage girl and went into hiding at a house in another location.
A family member managed to locate the child afterwards and return her home, while Adams evaded Police apprehension until he was arrested in December 2019. He was released on G$150,000 bail. The case will continue on February 25, 2020.
