Newly elected President of the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC), Aleem Hussain promised an aggressive start to 2018 while confirming that plans are in place to turn the facility into a full-fledged Country Club.
During last Saturday’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), in an uncontested election, Hussain and his new executive body were appointed to oversee the Club’s future for the next one-year term. Hussain’s new team features; Paton George (Vice-President), Chatterpaul Deo (Captain), Pandit Ravi Persaud (Secretary), Aasrodeen Shaw (Treasurer), Parmanand “Max” Persaud (Asst. Secretary/Treasurer), Anasha Ally (Public Relations Officer) and Mike Gayadin (Head Grounds Superintendent).
Regarding the Club’s plans for 2018, Hussain said that numerous initiatives are at the forefront of the planning, revealing that the big move was to turn the club into an official country club which will offer; 5-star meals, a high-end bar, excellent dining and recreational facilities, ideal for wedding receptions, functions and more.
All the aforementioned amenities are expected to go along with the lavish course which according to the President “will be playable 365 days a year.” It was hinted that while the physical building will be remodeled, the outer parts are expected to undergo changes which could see; mini-waterfalls, fishes, fauna and other plants being used as eye-candy for the club.
While the Fairways at Lusignan have been kept in brilliant conditions over the years, Hussain said that it was thanks to MACORP who have been providing equipment to assist in the maintenance of the greens, which have made it even more possible to keep the course playable; even in the event of inclement weather.
Following a successful Guyana Cup Open 2017, which for the first time featured the inclusion of schools in the tournament, the LGC according to Hussain will now take it a step further as they plan to apply themselves into the academic systems by fully targeting universities and schools on a weekly basis.
Hussain further confirmed that with the landscape of golf slowly being remodeled, he plans to open the doors of the LGC to the public. He believes that with more emphasis being placed on golf, it will be easier for more persons to follow the sport and inevitably join the club, thus strengthening Guyana’s reputation as a powerhouse.
Furthermore, it was confirmed that three major tournaments will highlight 2018 with the Guyana Open Cup 8 expected to surpass the previous editions. Hussain also believes that with the local golfers setting the benchmark over the years with pros like Avinash Persaud winning a record 8 times, more golfers will be able to improve their games and help keep Guyana on the map.
The Club Head credited Persaud for keeping Guyana at the head of the line and making the Country one of the most difficult to beat as Guyana’s participation ahead of an early 2018 assignment in French Guiana, was requested. Meanwhile, Hussain said that 2017 is expected to sign off with a bang as plans are currently in place to stage one final tournament before the year officially concludes.
