A man who was brought before Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Monday to answer to a burglary charge told the Court that he fell asleep outside the home of the Virtual Complainant (VC) and woke up in the VC’s bed. Hundreds of rice farmers in Essequibo, Region 2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam) are expected to benefit tremendously from a multimillion-dollar pump facility in Lima Village, which was officially commissioned on Monday by Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo. Maritime Dept reports less river deaths in 2015

The Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) in Guyana saw a reduction of 21.7% in total marine deaths for the year 2015. This was disclosed during the Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s performance review by Director General of MARAD, Ms. Claudette Rogers. This decline was attributed to a number of safety precautions. In the year 2014, the total number of boat accidents totalled eight while in 2015 the number dipped to five. An investigation has been launched into the death of the Meten-Meer-Zorg fisherman, whose body was discovered on Monday in the Berbice River. Shahabudeen Haniff, 49, of Lot 191 West Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara, was discovered dead in the net of a fishing vessel after it was alleged that he fell off a trawler he was working on.
