Sports in History A moment in time…Ivan Madray’s spectacular catch sixty years ago
Ivan Madray’s demise in 2009 brought back memories of a spectacular catch which he took some sixty years ago. I can see in my mind’s eyes that catch as if it occurred only yesterday. Madray was about 16-years-old and attending Corentyne High School. It was some time in the mid-1950s in the Rohlehr Cup final between City Stars, a little club at Miss Sibi (Miss Phobe) and Police Sports Club (PSC) at Parade Ground, New Amsterdam some exciting cricket prevailed. Perhaps, I should tell you a little more about the…

In the end, it came down…

Read MoreSettlement In Guiana From earliest times 11
As early as 1580, certain Dutch traders established a settlement on the eastern bank of the Pomeroon River; and even in the first year after its formation, this settlement was recognised by the home government. A Dutch population gradually spread along the banks of this river and long flourished, though never developing a colony with a distinct government. At a considerably later period…between 1650-1660, a vain attempt to give new vitality to the settlements on the Pomeroon was made, by building the two towns of New Zealand and New Middleburg.…
Read MoreThe ‘Mother and Daughter Pageant’ Highlighting the bond between mothers and daughters
More than two decades ago, two teachers were chatting casually in the St Joseph classroom. They talked about life, love and family relationships. But little did they know that their discussion would lead to creating one of Guyana’s most notable pageants. Read MoreDoor problems
Welcome back to another DIY project! This time around we will look at some small but pesky door problems. Recently, I’ve had to make a fix on a latch that won’t lock, took just less than 5 minutes and was extremely satisfied afterwards! These problems are like dripping faucets, they’re relatively small, but they eat at you. So sometimes we have doors that won’t close properly, either you have to lift them up slightly or press them down, or the latch won’t go in. The first thing you should check…
