In a statement, the PPP/C said the APNU’s confirmation that they will not participate further in the ongoing public debates on corruption is an admission that their charges of corruption have been unfounded. “APNU in a desperate effort to save face has issued a press statement which is merely an attempt to distract from…

Follow pattern

Satiricus thought he would just ‘throw back’, after all the problems in Linden. Now that the army said the roads were clear, he’d be taking his brood down to Lethem for the holidays. Maybe he could take some pictures of all the burnt out buildings. When the government rebuilt all of them from his hard-earned taxes, he could show everybody, the ‘before and after’ pictures. So here he was, about to able over to the back-street dive for a farewell drink with the boys, when the news came over that…

I am siding with the GTA

Dear Editor, A few years back, I was listening to a former radio broadcaster on the Voice of Guyana (VOG). He played a clip in which he spoke to a sculptor who really lamented his plight. The ‘without pay’ worker, an artist of the highest calibre, explained his craft. This was the gist of it: very dexterous with hands; creative in mind; patient in mindset; sighting before and beyond the piece. Now I think that such a man is deserving of some money. Good news then – at long last.…

The mining school is indeed necessary

Dear Editor, Technology is here and we have to accept the changes that it is ushering in. On a personal note, I just lament the erosion of the ‘pork knocker culture.’ I still like to listen to the many songs and read the stories and poems which capture an almost (at least I am beginning to feel this way) ‘forgotten time.’ I am hearing “I’m going up the Potaro.” (Snap out now). The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment received four computer systems from Mahdia Gold Corporation for a mining…

The joy I am experiencing is related to the fact that micro- entrepreneurs in Guyana will soon have the opportunity to propose business plans and could receive funding to start up their own businesses. This is really a fillip to the Guyanese people. When I confirmed the news, I instantly emailed my New York friend since he is very business minded. The idea of helping…

Gov’t flays critics of Specialty Hospital contract award

Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon has registered government’s consternation at what he termed the persistent, unsubstantiated allegations, conjecture and outright misrepresentation in sections of the media on the contract awarded for the construction of the Specialty Hospital. Dr Luncheon pointed out that while it is accepted that Cabinet was not in possession of every iota of information regarding the bid, whatever facts made available was both necessary and sufficient for the contract to be granted. “The administration has issued a press statement which provides eloquent evidence and the basis for…
