Miner shot dead, two injured in ambush

By Ariana Gordon A miner was shot dead while two others are seriously injured and woman kidnapped when gunmen ambushed them along a trail at Five Star Backdam, North West District (NWD) early Tuesday morning. Two persons have since been arrested. Miner killed, another injured in Bartica smash-up

An early morning accident on Second Avenue, Bartica on Wednesday has left one man dead and another critical after the car in which they were travelling slammed into a parked truck. The accident occurred about 02:35h. Dead is 24-year-old Cleveland Jordon, a miner of Sixth Avenue, Bartica, while the injured man is known as Chavez Garcia. UNICEF donates over Gy$3M to Children’s Legal Aid

The Children’s Legal Aid service on Tuesday received more than Gy$3 million from UNICEF, bringing the total contribution to the agency to in excess of Gy$9 million over the past four years. Presenting the cheque was UNICEF representative to Guyana and Suriname Dr Suleiman Braimoh and receiving on behalf of Children’s Legal Aid was Guyana Legal Aid Director Josephine Whitehead.
