Speaking to the media briefly on Wednesday, President Jagdeo said: I am not disturbed because we know that Suriname has always claimed the area, so his re-instatement of that issue is nothing new.” Additionally, the head of state stressed that utterances of the Surinamese president ought to be seen in the right context: “… look at the context, he said we want to solve it…

Regional low-cost airline REDjet says it will be looking at alternative routes after it failed to break into the Trinidadian and Jamaican markets. REDjet Business Development Director Robbie Burns said that the non-approval of the airline’s request to operate in Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago seems to be more “political” in nature rather than “technical”. Aliann Pompey truly deserves the Medal of Service award

Dear Editor, Permit me to pen my satisfaction about Aliann Pompey’s recent National Medal of Service award. I am really happy for her, because when it comes to sports, Guyanese tend to place a lot more emphasis on cricket and football. Athletics is one of our oldest sports, but I do not think it is receiving the kind of interest and support it deserves. I was present at the President’s/Jefford Track and Field Classic in Linden when, for the first time in her international career, Aliann ran in Guyana. I…

Dear Editor, The Stabroek News, in its June 5 edition and under the caption “Have Arab uprisings sunk Jagdeo’s Middle East overtures?”, seemed bent on pushing the AFC’s position on the president’s trips to the Middle East, which suggests “that there is nothing tangible to show” for all such efforts. Before proceeding, it should be understood that the AFC is in collusion with the imperialists, and will prostrate itself at their feet to get into the corridors of power in this country. The same vermin that the AFC is courting…
