12 basketball players shortlisted for IGG

From a group of 20, 12 players were shortlisted to represent Guyana in the basketball competition of this year’s Inter-Guiana Games in Parimaribo, Suriname from November 9-11. The successful trials were held last weekend at the National Gymnasium. Five returning players are in the team: Nikkoloi Smith, Dominic Vincente, Dominic Douglas, Linden Fraser and Dave Plass.

Completing the team are Travin Dryden  (Wismar Multi), Nyambikieri Bacchus (President’s College), Elvis Thompson  (Kwakwani Sec.), Leonard Primo  (Kwakwani Sec.), Ahkeel Primo (Linden Technical Institute), Dwight Gray (Government Technical Institute), and Taquain Vieira  (Marian Academy). Lugard Mohan will serve as head coach for the male team for the second time.
They will continue to train on weekends through to November 8, in Georgetown. The final roster will be selected prior to the team’s November departure. Meanwhile, the female team has nine returning players. They are Lowquanta Gibson, Tamara Hunter, Ginelle Ifill, Necosia Mitchell, Kadian Rowe, Kristy Roberts, Briawna Gordan, Denisha Layne, Tisel Patterson. Bobby Cadogan will continue as head coach, while Bishops’ High School teacher Wayne Hinds will serve as the assistant coach.
