1,000 house lots to be distributed in Zeelugt

Housing and Water Minister Irfaan Ali says that, later this week, an additional 1000 house lots will be distributed to residents on the East Bank Essequibo. These house lots will be available in Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo. This, he noted, will boost housing development in the region.

Minister Ali expressed satisfaction at the rapid pace of development in Region Three. He said Parika has now achieved township status, and has proven to be one of the finer examples of the new growth “poles” in Guyana.

“We have banks, major insurance companies, massive commercial buildings in Parika, which has become part of the macro-level in Guyana,” the minister noted.

So far, in 2011, there has been a number of “One Stop Shops” organised and executed by the Housing and Water Ministry across the country, with the latest one being held during the International Building Expo 2011 at the Guyana National Stadium, from July 29- 31.

According to Minister Ali, more than 500 house lots were distributed on the East Bank Demerara.

The housing drive has seen thousands of acres of land developed and transformed into housing schemes, which have benefitted more than 20,000 households. President Bharrat Jagdeo at the Parika Expo on Saturday night, said he was proud of the work being done by the Housing Ministry.

He assured residents, who turned up in their numbers, that his administration is committed to making sure every Guyanese owns a plot of land: ” I am happy with the housing schemes that are going up now; more people have access to land; even the young ones in the family own land and it is evident.”
