‘Golden’ appreciation for football duo- King’s Jewellery World to present rings to Pollard, Hercules

In what can be termed a golden send off, Guyana’s foot-ball stalwarts Charles ‘Lily’ Pollard and Collie ‘Hitman’ Hercules will be presented with specially crafted gold rings, made by King’s Jewellery World, when they appear for Guyana’s All-Star team against Atletico Roraima of Brazil.

That game, the feature event on the opening night of the 21st staging of the Kashif and Shanghai football extravaganza, on Sunday, December 12th at the National Stadium, will be played in honour of the two ball-weavers, who have served Guyana’s football with distinction for a number of years.

Central defender Pollard, a former national captain, is currently playing in Trinidad and Tobago’s Pro League and will return to Guyana on Saturday, while forward player Hercules has retired and has ventured into the realm of coaching. He is currently the assistant coach of Guyana’s senior football team, the ‘Golden Jaguars.’

Yesterday, at the King’s Jewellery World location on Quamina Street, the company’s managing director, Ralph Persaud, presented the rings to directors of the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation, Kashif Muhammed and Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major.

Persaud said his entity has always supported the year-end football spectacle since its inception in 1990. He added that the rings, which prominently display the Kashif and Shanghai logo and the names of the two players, were carefully crafted by the best in the business. “We’re the only jewellers in Guyana, and probably the Caribbean, to do such a detailed piece,” Persaud boasted. Speaking on behalf of the Kashif and Shanghai organisation, co-director Muhammed said the organisation is very thankful for the support of King’s Jewellery World. “We think it’s a very good token for the players; something really special and deserving for the guys.”
