Shape 2000 launched its 2012 collection last Sunday at the Century Palms Garden, Lodge, Backlands, Georgetown under the title “Afrika Milele”. The designs of ladies and gents wear created by Donna Ramsammy-James were displayed by various models. The event this year is incorporated with the softness of Asia, the depth of Africa and the colour of the Caribbean. The various designs featured traditional and contemporary fashion of the African continent and its diaspora.
“Afrika Milele” coincides with the United Nations designation of 2011 as International Year for People of African Descent.
The designs, which drew on the insight and expertise of the designer who lived and worked in East Africa for some 12 years, have since been selectively marketed. Also, a voluntary contribution from the selected invitees was presented to the Guyana Relief Council.
