For the first time in the entire history of Guyana producing entertainers, a son of the soil has reached the finals of the Trinidad International Chutney Monarch Competition. From a field of over 140 artistes in the starting lineup, it’s now down to 15 finalists.
In an interview with Guyana Times International, Terry G expressed optimism of bringing home the title. The winner of the competition will get TT$2 million among other prizes, and Terry G says that if he wins, he will donate a “substantial amount” to charities that will benefit children both in Guyana and in T and T.
After a gruelling semi-final round at the Rienzi Complex in Couva, and following four intense days of both online and text voting for the BMobile Wildcard, which accumulated more than 26,000 votes, the names of the 15 finalists are in.
It should be mentioned that, in the history of the competition, the 2011 semi-final has been the most outstanding, not only from the level of the production of the event, but also judging from the quality of performances delivered by all 41 contestants.
The 15 finalists now move to the final round in the ‘Race for 2 Million’, scheduled for Skinner Park, San Fernando on Saturday, 19th February.
Terry says he is very proud to be representing Guyana, since he would be giving his country some positive publicity on the international stage. His semi-final performance was a Bollywood spectacle, with his dancers and actors all making a dynamic impression.
Terry G is appealing to his fellow Guyanese to give him the support he needs, as he would be putting Guyana on show at this prestigious annual competition. Guyanese can support Terry G via online voting and/or text messaging at http://www.simplyvote.net/csm/ or www.ChutneySocaMonarch.com. If you’re a true Guyanese and fully support Terry G for this international title, vote TGA for the “Guyana Baboo.”
