From now until June 11, Caribbean Week New York is being held at the Grand Central Terminal, offering a celebration of the unique vacation experiences available in the Caribbean. Hosted by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) the event is a chance to experience the sights, sounds and culture of island life along with some exclusive travel deals.
Travel experts from Caribbean destinations will be on hand and visitors will have opportunity to book exclusive Caribbean Week travel deals via Travelocity and American Airlines Vacations.
Part of Caribbean Week New York is the 2012 Rum and Rhythm Benefit. At this event guests will sample premium rums of the Caribbean and cuisine prepared by the region’s celebrity chefs. There is also an opportunity to experience some of the Caribbean’s award winning as guests journey from one destination to the other.
At another event, one lucky couple will tie the knot at a Caribbean-themed wedding ceremony in the iconic New York City landmark. “From the bride’s dress to the wedding cake to the honeymoon, the Caribbean has spared no expense to make their Caribbean dream come true,” says the CTO on their website.
The top-rated island of St Kitts will host a honeymoon for the lucky couple including two business class tickets to St. Kitts in addition to a four-night stay at the St. Kitts Marriott, which is also providing complimentary spa treatments and more.
Tourism, Industry and Commerce Minister Irfaan Ali is heading Guyana’s nine-member delegation in New York. He is being accompanied by Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) Chairman Ramesh Ghir; GTA Director Indranauth Haralsingh and Marketing Director Carla James.
Princess Hotel General Manager Muharrem Kulekci and the hotel’s sales and marketing director Petal Ridley will participate in the Caribbean Travel and Cultural Fair at Grand Central Station, which is one of the highlights of the programme.
The Guyana team is also being supported by Consul General Brentnold Evans and Business and Communications Consultant Sandra Ann Baptiste.
Twenty Caribbean countries are participating in the trade show. Fourteen Caribbean tourism ministers, including CTO Chairman and St Kitts and Nevis Tourism and International Transportation Minister Richard Skerritt, are also attending the week-long programme that includes an Investment Forum, at which Virgin Group Chairman Sir Richard Branson is expected to be honoured. Speakers include senior executives of investment firms in New York.
At the Media Marketplace, over 170 U.S.-based journalists will interact with Caribbean tourism ministers and executives to hear about the latest developments in the 32-member countries of the CTO. It is one of the key public relations events on the regional tourism organisation’s calendar.
